qSOFA and Sepsis-3

Do not allow the payor to deny the clinical validity of sepsis when qSOFA is not met.

Note that the flow diagram (see pdf) taken directly from the Sepsis-3 publication demonstrates that qSOFA is not necessary to meet criteria for Sepsis.

Sepsis is defined as life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection.

Bedside Quick SOFA (qSOFA): At least 2 of the following clinical criteria:

  1. Respiratory rate ≥ 22/min
  2. Altered mentation
  3. Systolic blood pressure ≤ 100 mm Hg
